Comparing Arctic Surface Albedo Modification Geoengineering Solutions

چکیده

As global warming continues, the trend of rapidly declining arctic sea ice is expected to increase. The albedo effect, a regulatory process in earth’s climate, has become positive feedback loop under climate change conditions. Sea high albedo, reflecting sun’s energy. continuously melts, more energy absorbed, reducing and leading increasing temperatures that continue propel cycle. With concerns regarding effects change, focus turned towards geoengineering solutions, which employ human intervention slow or stop warming. Regarding decline ice, specific solutions lower are examined. One first was Arctic Ice Management (AIM), proposed use wind-driven pumps restore thickness melting ice. A recent proposal Glass Microsphere (GM) geoengineering, involved addition reflective glass spheres surface. Few studies have compared solutions; crucial step implementation. Using mixed methodology statistical content analyses, GM AIM surface modification were terms volume risk factors. Results suggest displays significantly higher capacity preserve increase volume, but also associated with number risks AIM. Further comparison two suggested, along implementation combine both mitigation strategies.

Tackling Regional Climate Change By Leaf Albedo Bio-geoengineering

The likelihood that continuing greenhouse-gas emissions will lead to an unmanageable degree of climate change has stimulated the search for planetary-scale technological solutions for reducing global warming ("geoengineering"), typically characterized by the necessity for costly new infrastructures and industries. We suggest that the existing global infrastructure associated with arable agricul...

Albedo evolution of seasonal Arctic sea ice

[1] There is an ongoing shift in the Arctic sea ice cover from multiyear ice to seasonal ice. Here we examine the impact of this shift on sea ice albedo. Our analysis of observations from four years of field experiments indicates that seasonal ice undergoes an albedo evolution with seven phases; cold snow, melting snow, pond formation, pond drainage, pond evolution, open water, and freezeup. On...

Factors affecting projected Arctic surface shortwave heating and albedo change in coupled climate models.

We use a large ensemble of simulations from the Community Earth System Model to quantify simulated changes in the twentieth and twenty-first century Arctic surface shortwave heating associated with changing incoming solar radiation and changing ice conditions. For increases in shortwave absorption associated with albedo reductions, the relative influence of changing sea ice surface properties a...

Amplified Arctic climate change: What does surface albedo feedback have to do with it?

[1] A group of twelve IPCC fourth assessment report (AR4) climate models have Arctic (60N–90N) warmings that are, on average, 1.9 times greater than their global warmings at the time of CO2 doubling in 1%/year CO2 increase experiments. Forcings and feedbacks that impact the warming response are estimated for both Arctic and global regions based on standard model diagnostics. Fitting a zero-dime...
